"The Sistine Madonna" was supposed to adorn the tomb of Pope Julius II in the convent of St. Sixtus in Piacenza; although later was donated to Augustus of Saxony, and was hosted in Dresden. Raphael accomplished the impression that the Virgin is descending and coming out of the canvas. Oil on Canvas.

Visitors Comments on Sistine Madonna by Raphael

This is a very tall Madonna: her body is disproportionately tall if you compare it with the size of her face. It seems to be about nine heads tall, whereas normal women are no taller than six or even seven heads.
