An earlier masterpiece of Rubens', Samson and Delilah was commissioned by Nicolaas Rockox and became part of the Liechtenstein Collection in Vienna, Austria. It is a biblical scene, depicting the scene in which Samson's long hair is secretely cut, to enable his capuring by the Philistine soldiers. The authenticity of this painting was for a while debated, together with that of the Massacre of the Innocents. Oil on canvas, 185 _ 205 cm.
