Initially part of the Liechtenstein Collection of Art in Austria, assumingly improperly catalogued as a painting by Jan van den Hoecke, an asisstant of Rubens, The Massacre of The Innocents was finally identified as an authentic Rubens in 2001. After this, it was sold in a Sotheby's action and lately loaned to the National Museum of Art in London, where it is held until a future relocation to the Art Gallery of Ontario.
