Possibly the most famous drawing in the history of art, this sketch, also known "A Man in a Circle. Illustration of Proportions", is an icon for the spirit of the Renaissance. Placing the human being at the center of the universe, showing its intricate relations with the ideal proportions of art.

Visitors Comments on The Vitruvian Man by da Vinci

This image exemplifies the blend of art and science during the Renaissance.

Leonardo tried to relate man to nature. He believed the workings of the human body to be an analogy for the workings of the universe.

Leonardo symbolized the material existence by the square and spiritual existence by the circle.

I find this drawing remarkable because the ultimate message it communicates is that Man is the measure of all things. It is in each individuals power to take control of their own fate and be their potential.
