A painting that is arguably painted by two masters, probably Jan van Eyck and Hubert Van Eyck. it is believed the landscape in the background, as well as the Child are certainly painted by Jan Van Eyck. The figure of the Virgin however is considerd common and uninspired.

When Hubert van Eyck died in 1426 it is possible and even likely that he left behind him other unfinished work beside the Adoration of the Lamb. Such may have been the condition of the Virgin of Chancellor Rolin, a famous picture in the Louvre; such perhaps also that of the Dresden triptych.
The landscape in the former must surely be Hubert's. Jan did not paint landscapes of that kind, so far as we can judge. M. de Mely seems to have proved that the view is of the city of Lyons seen from the monastery of Ainay, looking up the Saone past the Barbe to the distant Alps.
On the other hand, the hard and unspiritual Virgin, the chubby graceless Child are Jan's all over, and so is the grim head of the Chancellor. It is, however, the landscape here that enraptures every beholder. The figures belong to the solid earth on which Jan firmly stood, his eyes steadily fixed on the men and women of his day.
