The New-born by Georges De La Tour, 1645
"The Newborn", or "The Nativity" is dated between 1640 and 1650, and is displayed in the Rennes Museum. This is a typical example of Georges De La Tour's strictly naturalistic interpretation of a sacred scene. We recognize his predilection for the effect of candlelight, which softens the details and, due to the purity of the touches, gives way to emotion.
