University of Montevallo, Department of Art
Art is big at Montevallo, in fact it is one of the largest departments in the University. With a dedicated full-time faculty of 12 and over 260 art majors, students have the challenge and the resources to achieve at their highest level and to meet the professional standards in their field. The University is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
Bachelor of Fine Arts (undergraduate)
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art degree is our professional degree for students who wish to pursue careers in art as practicing artists, designers, photographers, and teachers. The BFA in Art is an 86-credit-hour major providing a breadth of experience in studio and art history with the opportunity to study in depth in the following concentrations: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, new media, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. more
Bachelor of Arts (undergraduate)
The Bachelor of Arts in Art is one of our liberal arts degree with a 42-credit-hour major in art and the opportunity to explore other displines as minors, second majors, or general electives. This is a studio major with a range of foundations and advanced classes in studio and art history. In addition to the core academic classes that all undergraduates take, the BA degree requires classes in a foreign language. more
Minor in Art History (undergraduate)
The Art Department offers a minor in Art History, which is open to students of all majors. The Art History curriculum supports the BFA, BA and BS programs by fostering an understanding of the historical, philosophical and social conditions of visual culture. Courses are offered in all periods of western art and from architecture. more

Scott Stephens MFA, University of Alabama; BFA, Washington University in St. Louis Courses taught: Printmaking & Photography Quote: "Scott Stephens is Professor of Art and Chair of the Department of Art. He earned his MFA degree from the University of Alabama and the BFA from Washington University in St. Louis. His studio practice is in large-format printmaking and historic photographic processes. He directs the printmaking concentration and assists with instruction in the photography program. His interests in big prints has lead to the creation of large-format print facilities at Montevallo featuring a 44 x 84 inch Takach etching press that is suitable for intaglio, relief, plate lithography and monoprinting techniques. Ted Metz BFA, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA; MFA, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. Courses taught: Sculpture Quote: "Creatively, Metz has been successful in exhibiting his sculpture in more than 100 exhibitions, including those in Venice and Cortona, Italy, and the National Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. He has been recognized and has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and has been awarded the Visual Arts Fellowship from the State of Alabama." more |
