Vittore Carpaccio (1455-1525)

Italian painter Vittore Carpaccio of the Venetian school was born and died in Venice (cca. 1455-1525). He studied under the Venetian artist Gentile Bellini.

He was the author of many religious paintings appreciated for their charming atmosphere and exemplary realism. Among his better known works we include: the 9-painting series of the "Legend of St. Ursula" (among which "Apotheosis of St. Ursula"), Presentation of Jesus in the Temple" (Gallerie dell' Accademia, Venice), "Crucifixion and Apotheosis of the Ten Thousand Martyrs" (Gallerie dell' Accademia, Venice), the "Annunciation" (Galleria Franchetti, Ca d'Oro, Venice).
