Dutch painter by the name of Johannes Vermeer de Delft (Jan Van der Meer), one of the most illustrious of the period of Baroque Art. He was born and died at Delft (1632-1675). He is famous for his brightly lit scenes of interior,

Vermeer painted "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" (now hosted at the Mauritshuis in The Hague), "View of Delft" and The Letter series, depicting young women writing or reading letters. Lady Writing a Letter with Her Maid, etc.
