Masolino Da Panicale (1383-1440)

Tomasso Fini, also named Masolino da Panicale, was a Florentine painter born in 1383 at Panicale di Valdesa; he died c. 1440. A member of the Early Renaissance movement, Masolino painted frescoes in churches such as Carmine da Florenza, Capella Brancacci (a series of frescoes worked in collaboration with Masaccio, in 1424), and Basilica di San Stefano in Empoli. He also worked in Rome, and in Castiglione Olona.

Among the most appreciated of Masolino da Panicale's masterpieces we mention the "Annunciation" (1430 National Gallery of Art, Washington), the "Pieta" (1424, Museo della Collegiata, Empoli), and "Banquet of Herod" (1435, Baptistry, Castiglione Olona).
