Albrecht Durer (1471-1528)

Albrecht Durer, famous German engraving artist, painter, sculptor and architect, born at Nurenberg (1471 - 1528). He combines in his art a bafflingly rich imagination, a mastery of color like no other, and a drawing excellence that was for his age simply without equal.

His genius is manifested mostly in his engravings in wood and copper. Albrecht Durer is an excellent portrait painter, but also liked to explore terrible subjects (The Passions of Christ, The Apocalypse, etc.).

His masterpieces are precious documents describing the history of his times. We note from his engravings "The Knight, Death and the Devil", "Melencolia", the "Great Passions" series, and "The Apocalypse"series.

Albrecht Durer was majorly influenced by the Venetian painter Giovanni Bellini.
