Domenico Beccafumi (1481-1551)

Domenico Beccafumi (also named Mecherino, after his mentor Mechero) was an Italian painter, sculptor, architect and mosaicist of the Renaissance era, who was born at Montaperti approximately 1481, and died at Siena in 1551.

Beccafumi is known for his wonderful frescoes "Fall of the Rebel Angels" (at San Niccolo al Carmine, Siena), "The Reconciliation of Marcus Emilius Lepidus and Fulvius Flaccus" (at Palazzo Pubblico, Siena), and "Birth of the Virgin" (at Accademia, Siena).
