Caravaggio (1571-1610)

By his full name, Michelangelo Amerighi (or Merisi) da Caravaggio was born at Caravaggio and died at Porto D'Ecole.
He was a solitary talent, full of bitterness and aggressive revolt, with a painting style both rough and powerful. Caravaggio's use of energy-filled colors made him a master of Baroque realism. He is the author of The Head of Medusa, The Martyrdom of St Matthews, and of Death of The Virgin.
